Testimonies from the Trail

Testimonies from the Trail are stories from our times together in the wilderness, musings on the refreshing goodness of God in a dry and barren land, and boots on the ground accounts of real people seeking Jesus for life and healing.

I've always had a sense of God's Presence in nature; perhaps it's the relative quiet that makes it easier to hear the Still Small Voice. Our Wilderness Walk was a perfect reminder for me after months of intense activity that permeated our 1,200 mile relocation. I found myself saturated with rest and an intense empathy for the life around me: a lone seed stalk waving in the breeze, a brave little oak sapling far from the home tree, little critter freeways under matted grass recently weighed down with snow... Presence in solitude, Presence in community, all bathed in God-breathed Word.

The walk felt like a reset as far as being present and away from distracting technology. I felt more connected to God, to the others in our group, to nature, and to my own heart because of this set apart time.

Our walk awakened us to the glory of God at work in creation on a gray January day. Where I expected grayscale in the fog, I found vibrant colors. I expected to be cold, and instead I found the warmth of friendship. I felt myself waking up and coming to life in the company of creation and friends.
