Solitude

Learn and grow in the solitude, vast beauty, and expansive life in the wilderness.

The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims His handiwork.

- King David (Psalm 19:1)

King David knew that the glory of God is radiating throughout all of Creation!

  • We will dive into God’s Word to see what this source of glory is (Isaiah 6:3).

  • We will see that there is nothing on earth we desire besides the Lord (Psalm 73:25).

  • We will learn to ascribe glory, honor, and worth to the Lord (Revelation 4:11).

Simplicity in all things is the secret of the wilderness and one of its most valuable lessons.

- Sigurd Olson

Sigurd Olson, Boundary Waters conservationist and author, understood traveling light in the wilderness.

  • We will travel without cell phones and watches, bringing a team camera to share.

  • We will navigate by map and compass, learning to live and travel in simplicity.

  • We will learn to take care of our gear and the land, stewarding our gifts well.

He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain that which he cannot lose.

- Jim Elliot

Jim Elliot, a Christian missionary, knew what we gain in Christ is greater than anything in this world.

  • We will turn our eyes towards Christ through the study of the Word, quiet time with Him, and prayer.

  • We will hold loosely to the things of the world and tightly to Christ, learning to treasure Him over the things of this world.

  • We will see that power belongs to God as we sleep under the stars, shelter in a storm, and paddle through crystal waters.
