Fall Follow-Up

Meet once after the trip to reflect, debrief, and celebrate with your group. Apply lessons from the wilderness to your daily life. Know the Lord is with us in the wilderness and back home.

Reflect and Debrief

Get together once after your trip. Enjoy reminiscing on the trip. Discuss the final day of trail study after being back in the Cities. Share ways you grew during the trip and hear from each team member as they recall their journey. Pray together for the work God did in your hearts and lives on trail. This is a valuable time of growth, closure and bonding for the team.

Celebrate

Laugh as you remember stories of the spontaneous “I’m going crazy with the amount of mosquitos” dance and Gospel choir sing-a-long. Encourage each other with victories on trail. Remember how God sustained you on the portages, in the wind and waves, and in using the woods as a bathroom. Encourage each other with how you saw each person grow, try new things, and step out of their comfort zone.

Keeping it real…

A struggle: Wilderness trips can bring up hard things: seeing ways we think, act, or believe that don’t bring life. They also bring amazing growth, healing, and hope. Christ made a way on the cross for us to truly debrief, heal, and reconcile.

A temptation: We can easily focus on our short-comings or those of others, and miss the growth God brings. Keep an eye out for glimpses of God’s grace and remember that we are called to build one another up in Christ.

A hope: Being on trail brings out the good, bad, and ugly. Christ makes all things new. This is a perfect place for our pride to be crucified and to grow in humility. The Holy Spirit does this and we cheer each other on in the process!
